California South Bay University Commencement 2011

Dear All,

It was wonderful to look back at our 2011 Commencement held on Saturday, May 21, 2011. As an educator, this is not my first graduation. While each graduation I attended is unique in its own way, they all have some common threads, new beginnings, memories treasured, lessons learned, recognition of success. And this year, I was inspired by watching faculties, students, staff and families and loved ones of our graduates gathered in student hall to celebrate CSBU students who are graduating.

As the president, one of my big ‘challenges’ was to decide theme for graduation speech. Who am I to tell these wonderful students anything? Why should they listen to me? Many things came to my mind. But i realized, one thing that gathered us was mindset of the importance of education degree in tough times like today. I know they worked hard to achieve what they have achieved and with the knowledge and skills they had developed, I believe graduates can offer new fresh spirit to the community. As educator, it is my duty to continuously support them. They are not only my student, but they are part of CSBU family, big family. Ms. Stacey Peralta, professor at CSBU Biotechnology Department and also the speaker representing faculties wonderfully addressed the same issue.

I am also honored that during this time, CSBU received certificate of recognition from California State Legislature. It was great to be recognized for providing leadership in academic excellence and outstanding community service as well as benefitting all the people of the State of California.

All the experience even complete, when I received news that graduates get hired in different place and worked in the area of their interest.

I know, it is hard to capture all the moments, but I want to use this opportunity to share this wonderful experience with you. We have put together slides of pictures taken during the commencement to memorize this moment.

Happy Graduation All and Best of Luck!

Ling Li

INTRODUCTION TO RENEWABLE ENERGY SOURCES

With the implementation of California Public Utilities Commission’s Photovoltaic Incentives, interest in Renewable Energy especially Photovoltaic System is at an all time high. According to California Energy Commission, there have been 76,984 solar projects in California with 779 Megawatts installed as in February 10, 2011.

Noticing this, California South Bay University held a discussion event on Green Energy with the help of our partner, St. Clara Adult Education. This free discussion gathered St. Clara Residents who are interested in the development and trends in the green energy industry. Some topics covered include (a) The importance of renewable energy, (b) Industry update & trends, companies’ growth in California specifically in the East Bay Corridor, (c) The impact of green energy movement on the development of green job market.

Nevertheless, during the discussion of the last topic, many questions arise from audiences. It is understandable since new development of new industry may lead to new job opportunities. Audiences were very interested in terms of what kind of Solar Power Career are in demand right now, what kind of education background needed, and also what kind of national certification available to verify their qualifications in the Professional Photovoltaic field. Every effort was made to ensure that any questions that audiences may have about photovoltaic industry are answered.

At the end of discussion, both school officials and audiences agreed that it was a very insightful discussion. School official mentioned that as an educational institute, it is CSBU’s mission to give back to community by providing knowledge that stimulates interest and involvement on the development of the current technology and industry. He also hoped that this can be a regular event, not only renewable energy, other field such as biotechnology is also currently in the fastest growing stage as an innovative science industry.
