Program Summary:

The Biotechnology Certificate Program is a competency-based program designed to prepare student with skills and knowledge to enter the biotechnology industry. It was established to meet the personnel requirements of the rapidly expanding Bay Area biotechnology industry.

Program Goals:

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

• Demonstrate mastery of the fundamental concept of biotechnology and the scientific method
• Demonstrate the fundamental concept and application of cellular and molecular biology
• Perform qualitative, quantitative, and instrumental analysis of samples using established molecular techniques and instrumentation
• Gained computer skill especially for collecting and assessing laboratory and field data and preparing reports
• Maintain a laboratory notebook according to current Biotechnology industry standards documenting lab procedures, problem solving, data collection, and data analysis
• Asses personal compliance with current laboratory safety procedures

Currently, California South Bay University offers 2 programs in Biotechnology:

• Biotechnology Technical Professional (720 hours)
  In addition to describing the integrate blueprint of the bioscience industry, this program will also cover solid understanding of clinical testing, a foundation principles that guide diagnostic work and production, and a recognition of bioscience research and technology development. The combination of general and practical knowledge enhances the skills of professional currently working in this industry and helps prepare others to enter this dynamic field.

• Biotechnology Technician (360 hours)
  The biotechnology technician program will provide student with basic knowledge of innovative biotechnology approaches used in biotechnology industry. It will explore basic concept of biotechnology and emphasis more on biotechnology laboratory skill and techniques. Completing this program, you will have the necessary laboratory skills needed for an entry level career in biotechnology.
